Perhaps keep that in mind when making your unit composition. Griffins (both regular, angelic, and royal), demons and executioners are the only units i recall that have the furious ability, that allows them to counter attack all hits. That is a very powerful skill when combined with a unit that lets you counter ALL melee attacks. I have never played viking but one of their skill lets you counter attack with increased chance of critical hit(it's pretty much almost guaranteed crits). Overall, viking and skald are recommended for a beginner. It's only normal diffiiculty, i'm sure you'll get the hang of it and manage to make the best out of this class. But if you're in for a small challenge, by all means pick it. If you're unfamiliar with the game then avoid this class. But however once again, as you get to the middle to end of the game, the soothsayer, if not, in my opinion, is one of the best classes to play once you get your intelligence to very high numbers. No matter the difficulty they will have a bit of trouble getting started. Later you can trade in those high amounts of spirit runes that you probably should have racked up for other class runes to help you level up other class skills. Their class skills aren't that great however, this is to make up for their high leadership. Other than that, skald is also very good, high leadership is just as good as high attack. This is more true if you fought everything in your way. The enemy balance isn't quite right and their leadership tends to be lower than your army in most cases. The thing about this game is that i find that the game gets ALOT easier as you get toward the middle to end of the game, no matter what difficulty you are on. Vikings are a good starter class, even for normal. Not like you can't use spells, just some classes get more magic runes to level up magic skills faster while the viking class is behind on magic skills. Vikings focus more on using units to deal damage than spells.
